Hurricane Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. was formed in the
fall of 1995 after meetings in our community determined there was a need. The first board members elected were:
Jim Slusher, CEO; John H. Justice, President; Homer Adkins, Vice President; Mary Bush, Secretary; Pam Mims, Treasurer; Ricky
Slusher, Chief; Richard Meade; Millard Daniels; Mike Lusk.
Many of our first members had been associated with other fire departments but lived in HCVFD
area. This has been a great help to us. Our first truck was a 1967 F600 Ford tanker with a 5HP pump on board.
We had no station at this time and in cold weather the truck was drained so it would not freeze. Our first pumper
was a 1962 Ford all wheel drive than needed a lot of repairs. This was done with the help of all our members working
nights and weekends and a lot of money donated to us from some business owners in our aera.
In 1997 property was purchased for a fire station and with help from The Pike County
Fiscal Court and a lot of fund raisers we had our first fire station.
We have come along way in a short time. We now have 2 stations and 5 trucks.
One of them being the first CAFS (Compresed Air Foam System) in this aera. We also have earned a Class
5 ISO rating.
Many of our orginal members are still active. Our first presidnt, John
H. Justice has pased away and Eddie Overstreet was elected as his successor. Richard Meade resigned as board member
but is still active in helping our department. John L. Adkins was elected as a board member.
